India and South Africa continued the action in the ongoing ODI series in the second game at St. George's Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday, December 12. The Indian team came into the clash after registering a brilliant win in the first ODI, however, the Proteas came back with an exceptional performance in the second one to level the series.

The clash began with India coming into bat first after losing the toss. The side got off to a horrid start as opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was sent packing for four runs. However, Sai Sudharsan followed up with another excellent performance and scored a solid 62 off 83.

Skipper KL Rahul added 56 runs on the board while Tilak Varma could not get going, getting dismissed for just 10 runs. Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh were unable to go big as they were dismissed for 12 and 17 runs respectively as South Africa’s bowling attack proved too much to handle for the visitors.

Nandre Burger was the highest wicket-taker in the first innings, taking three wickets for just 30 runs in his 10 overs while Beuran Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each as South Africa bundled out India for just 211 runs in 46.2 overs.

Tony de Zorzi goes big in chase

Aiming to chase 212, South Africa put in a dominant performance with the bat. The hosts opened the innings with Reeza Hendricks scoring 52 runs in 81 deliveries and Tony de Zorzi being the standout performer as the opener amassed 119 runs in 122 deliveries.

As for team India, the bowlers were unable to make any impact as pacer Arshdeep Singh and Rinku Singh
were the only wicket-takers with one wicket to their name each. South Africa won the game by eight wickets and levelled the series.
Both sides will have it all to play for in the series decider on Thursday, December 21, as they will take centre stage at the Boland Park in Paarl.
