Cricket fever is in its full swing with the Women's Asia Cup 2024 nearing its summit clash. On Friday in the second semifinal of the intercontinental tournament, hosts Sri Lanka Women (SL-W) squared off against Pakistan Women (PAK-W) with a chance to feature in the final as the stakes were high.

Notably, after winning the toss, the hosts decided to take the field first. Openers of the Green Shirts Gul Feroza and Muneeba Ali gave a solid start with their 61-run stand for the first wicket before Udeshika Prabodhani gave the Lankan Lionesses a much-needed breakthrough in the 10th over. Thereafter, skipper Nida Dar took the onus on her to steady the ship while Fatima Sana gave the final flourish as the visitors finished with a competitive total of 140/4 in their 20 overs quota.

For Sri Lanka, apart from Prabodhani, Kavisha Dilhari's bowling turned out to be another notable performance in the semifinal clash. Both the players claimed two wickets each in their spell.

In reply, Sri Lanka Women had a terrible start as they lost two wickets early on in the run chase in the fourth over. Opener Gunaratne failed to trouble the scorers along with Samarawickarama. However, Chamari Athapaththu continued her batting mojo in the epic clash as she scored a terrific half-century (63 off 48 balls) before falling prey to Sadia Iqbal. Pakistan Women kept the screws tight as they claimed two wickets in tandem on the score of 78. But a Captain's knock ensured that the Lionesses were just 20 runs short of the target.

In the end, Anushka Sanjeewani stayed till the last with her vital unbeaten cameo to her side over the line to set the summit clash with India Women. Notably, the final of the Women's Asia Cup 2024 will be played on Sunday, July 28 in Dambulla.
