Mumbai Indians Women's registered their second consecutive win of the Women’s Premier League 2024 as they beat Gujarat Giants Women's by five wickets in Match 3 on Sunday, February 25 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. After being put in to bat first, Gujarat struggled through their innings and posted 126/9 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai chased down the target in 18.1 overs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur leading from the front with her innings of 46* (41).

Mumbai were put in a spot of bother as they were 49/3 after 7.4 overs. However, Amelia Kerr (31 off 25) got together with her captain to bail their team out of trouble with a 66-run stand. Earlier in the day, Gujarat Giants (GG) didn’t get off to a good start losing their opener Veda Krishnamurthy (0 off 2) in the first over itself.

Captain Beth Mooney (24 off 22), Phoebe Litchfield (7 off 8) and Ashleigh Gardner (15 off 22) also failed to leave a mark leaving Gujarat in all sorts of trouble at 78/7. A 48-run stand off 36 balls between Kathryn Bryce (25 off 24) and Tanuja Kanwar (28 off 21) took GG to a respectable total of 126/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

1. Shabnim Ismail stars with 3-fer

The right-arm seamer got her team off to a perfect start dismissing opener Veda Krishnamurthy (0 off 2) in the first over itself. She later got rid of Harleen Deol (8 off 9) and Beth Mooney to leave Gujarat on 58/5 after 10.1 overs. Ismail finished with figures of 3/18 in four overs.

2. Amelia Kerr spins a web around Gujarat batters

The wrist-spinner bowled beautifully through the middle overs and scalped crucial wickets for her side to bring Gujarat down to their knees, Kerr dismissed Ashleigh Gardner (15 off 22), Sneh Rana (0 off 2), Tanuja Kanwar (28 off 21) and Lea Tahuhu (0 off 2) to register figures of 4/17.

3. Harmanpreet Kaur continues her brilliant form

The Mumbai Indians’ skipper walked to the crease with her team reeling at 49/3 after 7.4 overs and got involved in a crucial stand with Amelia Kerr adding 66 runs off 50 balls for the fourth wicket. Kaur remained unbeaten on 46* (41) with the help of five fours and a six.
