Finally, the Big Bash League (BBL) has lived up to its billing. It took almost six matches for it to come to the party as the Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers played a humdinger of an encounter which went down until the last over. But in the end, the visitors triumphed at the Adelaide Oval thanks to a sensational and record partnership between Daniel Christian and Mohammad Nabi.

They came together with the team struggling at 82/5 needing more than 90 runs in less than nine overs. But the duo kept thumping the ball all over the ground without any fear to keep the target in sight for the Renegades. The Strikers’ skipper Colin Ingram tried hard by making a plethora of bowling changes but to no avail. Nabi was the man first to go bonkers after which Christian just killed the game in the penultimate over.

When 23 runs were needed off the last two overs, Christian scored 20 runs off Billy Stanlake to end the contest after which Nabi slammed a boundary off Ben Laughlin to seal a memorable victory. The unbeaten partnership of 94 runs for the sixth wicket was also the best ever for the Renegades ever as they registered their second consecutive victory of the season.

Rashid Khan bowled a sensational spell to return with the figures of 2/13 but the other bowlers were targetted smartly by the Renegades.

Short and Wells propel the Strikers

Adelaide Strikers were put into bat first earlier in the day and they were also in trouble at 63/3 in the ninth over. But the duo of Jonathan Wells and Matthew Short batted well for them and their partnership of 104 runs in just under 11 overs made sure that the home side finished with a decent score on the board.

While Short scored 65 runs, Wells was dismissed on 42. Before them though, Jake Weatherald and Colin Ingram also took the attack to the opposition to get the team off to a good start. But Nabi and Cameron Boyce pulled back with quick wickets. However, Short and Wells made sure that the hosts posted 174 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets after 20 overs. Unfortunately, the score wasn’t enough for them as the Renegades gunned it down with five balls to spare.
