South Africa entered the contest at the Sahara Stadium at Kingsmead, Durban with a 2-0 lead in the series and had a great chance to seal the five-match ODI series with yet another win here. Having won the toss Australian skipper Steve Smith decided to bat first. The Aussise batted extremely well and with dual tons posted 371 runs on the board. The Proteas were never quite in the chase until the 31st over still needing over a 160 runs to win but that was when things started to change as ‘The Killer’ David Miller got into the act.

They were 6 wickets down for 265 runs in 37.4 overs and it didn’t look like happening tonight. But that was when Miller found an able partner in Andile Phehlukwayo who stayed calm in the crunch moments of the game as the former dealt with most of the pressure at the other end. Miller took the Australian bowlers to the cleaners and a sense of panic kicked in, the inexperienced Aussie bowling lineup.

He took just 79 balls to score 118 runs. His knock was studded with ten boundaries and six sixes. Towards the end of the chase, he didn’t let any bowler execute their plans and dictated his terms. By then Phehlukwayo had his eye in and was ready to get going. He also hit a few biggies and scored 42 runs from 39 balls with four fours and a couple of sixes.

The way this duo batted stole the game away from Australia to get over the line. It isn’t often that a score as big as 371 is chased down. But a lot of credit goes to the way Miller planned, paced and played his inning. And in the end, South Africa reached 372/6 with 4 balls to spare.

Here is how Twitter applauded David Miller’s efforts:
