Kolkata Knight Riders took on Delhi Daredevils in an even contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss as KKR elected to field first. While DD brought in Shreyas Iyer, Mohammad Shami, Carlos Brathwaite and Sam Billings, KKR also had Brad Hogg, Piyush Chawla, and Jason Holder coming in for them.
Batting first, Daredevils lost quick wickets as they were reduced to 32/3 in 5 overs. From there on, Nair and Billings built a brilliant partnership of 105 runs from just 68 balls as the Daredevils recovered from an earlier slump. While Nair scored 68 from 50 balls, Billings also shone brightly in his first IPL game as he smashed 54 (34).
Brathwaite’s cameo of 34 runs from 11 balls provided DD innings the finishing touches as they managed to score 180/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Russell and Yadav were the pick of the bowlers as both picked 3 wickets apiece.
On the other hand, even KKR didn’t have a great start as Zaheer sent both Gambhir and Chawla who had been promoted back to the pavilion. While Uthappa displayed some effort, wickets kept tumbling from the other end. Uthappa raced his way to 72 from 52 balls as the rest of the batting faded away.
Russell had the valour to take away the game from Delhi but a brilliant reflex catch by Mishra was followed by another flurry of wickets as KKR were bundled for 159 with 9 balls to spare. Delhi Daredevils won by 27 runs as they moved to no.3 in the points table.
Twitter kept everyone entertained with some superb tweets throughout the KKR-DD clash. Right from lauding Billings and Nair to trolling KKR, here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:

KKR developing a bad habit of tinkering with batting order. Manish Pandey not being there has thrown them a bit.

Hahaha. Holder justifies the time he spent on the bench since March.

Amit Mishra just took a catch which came back to him within 2 seconds from the time he delivered the ball.. Incredible reflex!

A Mumbaikar (Iyer) playing for #DD completes a fine catch to send another Mumbaikar (Yadav) of #KKR on his way, OUT for 21 #DDvKKR #IPL2016

There was some question of how @sambillings would go on debut in India against three spinners. He went really well!

Spunky fightback by Delhi. Gauntlet thrown at Kolkata. Even for a strong batting line up, 187 not easy to chase
