The 9th match of the MSL 2019 is done and dusted, alright! But the Durban Heat should be still perplexed about how they lost that one. Cape Town Blitz pulled the rabbit out of the hat in this high-intensity encounter and Wihan Lubbe’s brilliant efforts had to go in vain. Quinton de Kock’s bold moves as the captain worked miracles and it was Dale Steyn who was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’.
Batting first, the Cape Town Blitz got to 174 for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Asif Ali (43 off 26 balls) and Marques Ackerman (43 off 34 balls) made valuable contributions to the side. While they should have easily posted a bigger score on the board, George Linde’s 16-ball 15 towards the end upset the momentum and also nearly cost the Cape Town Blitz the match. Andile Phehlukwayo, despite picking two wickets, was quite expensive.
Dale Steyn gets the most important breakthrough in the match
In the chase, the Durban Heat might have lost a couple of wickets early. But despite losing Alex Hales for a duck and Dane Vilas for 8, they were still in a good position. With the way Wihan Lubbe batted, the batsmen at the other end had to be mere spectators and played the second fiddle. The left-hander was cruising along nicely. Just 56 runs were needed in the last six overs. He and David Miller were out in the middle and could have easily accomplished the task.
But a couple of overs before that, Quinton de Kock took a bold call. The South Africa cricketer brought on Dale Steyn to bowl the 13th over – his third in the innings. 9 runs came from that over. But still, the wicket-keeper persisted with his main man and gave him the 15th over as well. It was in that over when the Steyn gun got the big fish, Wihan Lubbe for 83 off 42.
Things turned completely upside down for the Durban Heat from thereon. Wahab Riaz and Sisanda Magala did a great job to close the game and not let the hosts get over the line. Durban Heat fell agonizingly short of the target by 10 runs. Twitterati applauded the Blitz for the team effort but felt bad for Wihan Lubbe.
Here is how Twitterati reacted
Dale Steyn again instrumental in winning this for the Cape Town Blitz, just as he was in the tournament opener against the Jozi Stars. 2/23 in his 4, plus the key wickets of Alex Hales & Wihan Lubbe. A game Durban Heat should've won, but have somehow managed to lose! #MSLT20

*Lighter note*
Glad to see great Asif ali is performing well in t20 Mzansi super league (South African origin), as of last year, when he too scored well in similar league and selected for Pak team. Means, what a great benchmark has been created to enter in national side,— Muhammad Saqib Anwar (@muhammadsaqib0) November 17, 2019

Wihan Lubbe smashes three fours and a six (which goes out of the stadium) in his first five deliveries at the crease! Then narrowly escapes being run out as the Blitz mess up a straightforward chance. #MSLT20 #MSL2019 #Nortje #HeatvBlitz

Always enjoy watching Marques Ackerman at the crease. Smart cricketer, always busy and makes it difficult for bowlers to settle on a line and length. #MSL2019 #HeatvBlitz
