The Nottingham crowd bear witness to a historic game as England went on to pile up the highest ODI score ever. Earlier in the day, Eoin Morgan won the toss as England elected to bat first on a good batting surface.
While Jason Roy got out soon, it was Hales who stepped up this time. Not having been at his best in the recently concluded Test series, Hales went on to smash a record ODI score for England. He raced his way to a magnanimous 171 runs from just 122 balls. An innings which had 22 boundaries and 4 sixes.
Root also chipped in with a run a ball 85. After that, it was just fireworks as Buttler along with Morgan put up a fantastic display of pinch hitting. They had an unbeaten partnership of 161 runs from just 72 balls. While Buttler smashed 90(51)*, Morgan too laid his hand with a sensational 57(27)*.
Thanks to some brilliant hitting, England managed to topple Sri Lanka and secure the highest run score ever in a One Day International. Their innings folded up at 444/3 in 50 overs. Hassan Ali got a couple of wickets while Nawaz got one. The rest of the bowlers including Amir and Riaz were taken for the cleaners.
Pakistan had a really difficult target in hand and failed to capitalise early. While Sharjeel hit a quickfire half century, no other batsmen could step up. In order to increase the run rate, the batsmen went for risks and gradually lost wickets. In the end, Mohammad Amir registered his 2nd ODI fifty and became the first ever No.11 batsman to score a fifty in limited-overs cricket.

Pakistan, we know you are the number one test side but follow on system doesn't apply in ODIs. So you better try to score 445 & not 245.

Sharjeel Khan's 50 off 26 balls is the fastest by Pakistan opening batsman who is not Afridi. #EngvPak

Feeling sorry for the dude who's gonna compile the highlights for England's innings. But Pak's batting of 17 overs will make up for it.
