Day 5 of the final Test match of the series was once again interrupted. With around 25 overs being bowled, England failed to get Pakistan bowled out. As a result, the match was drawn and the hosts won the series 1-0. A hard-fought series ending with two draws, does not do justice to the teams.

Pakistan who started at 100/2 knew what they had to do. It was all about survival for them. The play started close to five hours late and it was evident that not much cricket would take place. Azhar Ali and Babar Azam came out to bat for the Asian side. It was Jofra Archer who started off for the English team, while James Anderson partnered him from the other end.

James Anderson reaches the dream 600 mark

The main aim of Day 5 for many was to see the England legend James Anderson complete his 600 wickets. He would’ve become the first pacer to achieve this feat in Test cricket. The moment came in Anderson’s third over of the day where he dismissed the Pakistan Captain Azhar Ali. A bit of extra bounce surprised the batsman and led to a thick edge going straight to Joe Root at slip. It would’ve been a sigh of relief for Jos Buttler, who had dropped a catch of Anderson’s bowling earlier in the inning.

600 wickets is no joke for any bowler. It takes years of consistent bowling and fitness to reach this mark. It would definitely be a proud moment not just for the bowler but for the entire English side. While many have criticized him saying that he only performs in his home conditions, an achievement like this deserves all the praise it’s getting. It’s his hard work and dedication which have helped him come so far.

Pakistan ended the day with a score of 187/4. Babar Azam scored a fluent 63 not out and was impressive once again. Joe Root got the wicket of Asad Shafiq to open his account. For England, James Anderson got a couple of wickets, while Stuart Broad and Root ended with a wicket each. The visitors would be happy to get away with a draw in this match. A scoreline of 1-0 doesn’t highlight the domination of the English side in this series.
