Faf du Plessis has a calm head on his shoulders and the attribute has earned him with a significant amount of success in the international circuit. He is set to captain South Africa in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. Currently, the Proteas batsman is plying his trade in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

He didn’t play the first few games but immediately made an impact after he eventually got an opportunity against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He followed it up with an unbeaten 43 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at home himself. Thereafter, the experienced campaigner slumped to a few failures and also had to miss a match in between.

Du Plessis plays a great knock

However, the Pretoria-born cricketer looked at his very best in the ongoing contest against Punjab at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. He scored a superlative 96 from 55 deliveries with the help of 10 boundaries and four sixes. He accomplished his half-century in 37 balls and eventually got out in the penultimate over of the game. A superlative Yorker from Sam Curran accounted for his dismissal.

After Curran got rid of Shane Watson in the fifth over, Faf cobbled together a second-wicket stand of 120 runs with Suresh Raina, who also contributed with a handy knock of 53 from 38 balls with five fours and a couple of sixes. Curran nipped out the ominous-looking Raina in the 17th over. The left-hander hasn’t had the best of IPL’s thus far, but today the southpaw looked fluent as ever.

Mohammed Shami picked up the wicket of Ambati Rayudu in the final over, caught by Mandeep Singh at deep mid-wicket. MS Dhoni also strained to find his feet and couldn’t get the ball away. Shami got his second wicket as he castled Kedar Jadhav with a peach of a Yorker. The Super Kings ended up getting a substantial 170 for five in their allotted 20 overs.

Here is how Twitter praised Faf for his amazing knock:
