Twitter Reactions: Gautam Gambhir resigns as the captain of Delhi Daredevils

Shreyas Iyer was appointed the new skipper for the remainder of the season.

How quickly things change! He was the heart and soul of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But they went against retaining the player who had won them two titles in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Then Delhi Daredevils (DD) stepped in and decided to bag his services with a hope to resurrect their fortunes in the tournament. Gautam Gambhir then was delighted to make a come back to his home franchise after a long time. However, he failed to lead from the front for them and mid-way through the season, has stepped down.

It has been a drag so far for Daredevils this season as they have managed to win only a solitary game after 6 matches. They are languishing at the bottom of the points table. The team will now have to win at least 7 out of their last 8 games to qualify for the playoffs. Gambhir himself has failed with the bat scoring only 85 at a strike rate of less than 100. He has looked completely out of sorts in the last few matches.

Twitterati not happy with the decision

Delhi Daredevils have appointed Shreyas Iyer as their new skipper for the remainder of the season and it likely now that Gautam Gambhir be dropped from the playing XI itself. With no strong performances to show, the team is likely to change their whole combination ahead of their next game against KKR on Friday. It remains to be seen if Iyer will be able to change the fortunes of the team with his leadership traits. He has been the only positive for him so far for Daredevils and has been consistent with the bat as well.

But Twitterati was not at all impressed with Gambhir stepping down from the captaincy as they believed the team was not doing well. They sympathised with the left-hander and felt that he should continue the lead despite the leader.
