New Zealand bossed Sri Lanka to win the second T20I at the Eden Park, Auckland and win the T20I series 2-0. The Lankans had a very forgetful day on the field, both batting and bowling wise. Sri Lanka batted first after Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to field. The Kiwi bowlers did not disappoint their skipper and bowled extremely well. The only Sri Lankan to withstand them was Angelo Matthews whose 81* formed the spine of the 142 runs Sri Lanka could manage at the end losing 8 wickets.

The target of 143 was chased down in no time by the New Zealand top order. Martin Guptill (63 from 25 balls) was at his destructive best and plundered a 19 balls half-century, the fastest by a New Zealander. Guptill was finally dismissed in the 7th over. The embarrassment for Sri Lanka only aggravated further as Colin Munro, who came into bat next, struck a 14-ball fifty to break the record by set by Guptill just a few overs earlier.

The feat also etched his name in the record books as his knock took him to the second position in the list of the fastest fifties in T20I cricket. The record of the fastest fifty belongs to India’s Yuvraj Singh who achieved it in a 12-ball duration during India’s match against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

With that the home team completed a perfect tour, beating Sri Lanka first in the Tests, then the ODI series and today completed a sweep in the T20I series as they won both the matches.

Here are the best tweets and Twitter Reactions hailing Guptill and Munro for their knocks:
