Northern Superchargers went into the game against Oval Invincibles with a depleted unit after Ben Stokes left the team. However, it hardly affected them as they went on to win by six wickets with three balls left. It also happened to be their maiden win on the ongoing edition of the Men’s Hundred.

Jason Roy takes charge for the Invincibles

After electing to bat first, the Invincibles got off to a poor start as they managed only 10 runs off the first 20 balls. Will Jacks’ dismissal in the 14th ball didn’t help their cause either. However, Sunil Narine’s 11-ball 22 with three sixes gave their innings some momentum. Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed him.

The middle-order faltered as the Invincibles slumped to 60 for six in 58 balls. From there on, Roy and Tom Curran’s unbeaten 67-run stand guided the Invincibles to 127. Even as Roy stayed unbeaten on 52, his partners scored 34. For the Superchargers, Adil Rashid was the standout bowler with three wickets.

Brook comes to the party

In the run-chase, Northern Superchargers started on a poor note as Adam Lyth and David Willey got out to Curran and Saqib Mahmood respectively. Chris Lynn played well for his run-a-ball 48 before Narine accounted for his wicket. His knock was laced with three fours and one six.

However, Harry Brook played beautifully and stayed not out on 47 runs off 30 balls with five fours and one six. He stayed until the very end to make sure that the Supercharger’s end their winless streak. John Simpson also played a decent hand as his unbeaten 10-ball 19 helped their cause.

David Willey, the Superchargers’ skipper was over the moon. He was also impressed with Brook. In the meantime, Brook talked about how he progressed in his knock.

I want to be a match-winner, says Harry Brook

“Always nice to contribute to a win. I am surprised I got it, I thought Rashid would be getting it. Lynn and I were just trying to tick it around and go big at the end. We wanted our first win, and it’s nice to win in front of the home crowd with some Yorkshire lads on our side. I want to be a match-winner and this is an example out there. I have played my game all year, and it has paid off,” Brook said.

“Great for us to get on the board after losing the first couple. We thought we had done alright at the halfway stage. The tricky pitch wasn’t easy to play fluent cricket. Brooky’s shown how good he is. He loves batting and loves scoring runs,” Willey said.
