Hobart Hurricanes kept their nerves in a heart-wrenching thriller against Sydney Sixers and beat them by just 5 runs in their home ground. Sam Billings of Sixers was the hero of the game who batted beautifully and created a chance for his team to win which looked highly unlikely in the middle of their chase. However, Twitterati was absolutely thrilled after watching the close game and poured in their reactions hailing the effort of Billings.
Hurricanes also joined the changing trend of winning the toss and batting first. But their opener Alex Doolan was dismissed early in the second over which brought Matthew Wade in to support the in-form D’Arcy Short. Wade’s promotion worked big time as he smashed 41 off just 30 deliveries as they added 77 for the second wicket. Both of them were dismissed in successive overs with George Bailey also following them put the home side in a spot of bother.
But the exploits of Daniel Christian who scored an unbeaten 28 off just 14 deliveries propelled them to a competitive 170/6 after their 20 overs. Sean Abbott was the best bowler for the visitors who picked three wickets conceding only 27 runs.
Billings livened up the chase
In response, Sixers also didn’t get off to a great start Jason Roy and Nic Maddinson early. Cameron Boyce of Hurricanes sucked all the momentum of the chase early in the game by bowling nagging line and lengths. Daniel Hughes held his own scoring 33 runs but he was dismissed in the tenth over with more than 100 runs required. Billings entered the scene then and was joined by Jordan Silk as they resurrected the chase to some extent. But when the latter was sent back to the dugout with 48 required off 23 deliveries, there was no chance for the visitors.
Billings though wasn’t done yet and had different ideas. He fought hard but still had to face the equation of 22 off the last over. One of the best T20 bowlers, Tymal Mills, was going to bowl the over who also gave only 4 runs off the three deliveries. Billings literally took up the challenge and smashed him for two sixes of his next two deliveries. Now Sixers needed only one more maximum to complete a stunning fightback. But the under-pressure Mills bowled a brilliant delivery which Billings missed out completely.
He was livid with himself as the fans were left heartbroken. Though the jam-packed crowd applauded his efforts as Hurricanes escaped with a five-run victory. Twitter loved watching such a close game and hailed both the teams for the same.

Sam Billings played attacking shots to 93.5% of balls faced in his 61* from 31 balls for @SixersBBL v Hurricanes, the highest proportion in any of the 25 scores of 50+ in @BBL this season.
