What a day for Afghanistan and Ireland cricket teams! Something that they’ve been hunting for so long is finally with them as the International Cricket Council announces Test Status for both these spectacularly talented cricketing nations. This is going to inspire many youngsters in their country to pick cricket as a profession and without a shadow of a doubt, they deserve it on any day.

The ICC board signed their Test status in London on Thursday in their Annual General Meeting. Yesterday, ICC Chief Dave Richardson was sounding very optimistic about both these countries getting the Test status in a pre-meeting interview.

“They both, on the face of it, meet the majority, if not all, of the full member criteria that has been set. I’m optimistic that they’ll be given serious consideration to have every chance of succeeding,” he said.

Huge day for both countries

Test status was looming over Ireland for a long period of time as they’ve been playing some great cricket over the last decade or so. Every World Cup they played, they managed to pull off some amazing results, even causing famous upsets pretty much every time.

From beating Pakistan in the 2007 ICC World Cup in the Caribbean Islands to registering a terrific run chase at the Chinnaswamy Stadium against the English, they’ve been the best out of all the associate nations by some distance.

Afghanistan, on the other side, are currently the most exciting cricket team in the world. The talent that they have in their country actually surprised many and their meteoric rise over the last half a decade is the reason why ICC has granted them the coveted Test status.

Cricketers like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Asghar Stanikzai and Mohammad Shahzad have been making great name for themselves in various T20 tournaments across the globe. This is a monumental day for Afghanistan and Ireland and Twitter is going crazy after learning this latest update. Take a look at how the cricketing fraternity is reacting to this.
