Bangladesh registered a thumping win in the first ODI against visitors Zimbabwe banking on a couple of incredible individual performances from Imrul Kayes and Mehidy Hasan. The Zimbabweans did fight hard towards the end, but a poor start in the run chase let them down big time.

Kayes was the star of the Bangladeshi innings, who registered arguably the best knock of his International career. With the home crowd cheering and chanting his name, the southpaw went on to register a scintillating third ODI century. His innings of 144 off 140 balls includes 13 fours and 6 sixes.

Unfortunately, the innings was a tale of two stories. On one side, the 31-year-old was playing outstanding cricketing shots, but he got no support at the other end. He received good support only from Mohammad Mithun and Saifuddin. Saifuddin who registered a half-century and added 127 runs for the 7th wicket alongside Kayes.

Banking on this incredible partnership, they went on to register 271 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Kyle Jarvis was the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers, who returned with figures of 4/37. Tendai Chatara picked up three wickets and gave away 55 runs in his 10 overs.

Mehidy Hasan takes the Tigers home

Cephas Zhuwao and Hamilton Masakdza gave the visitors a fiery start, but their partnership couldn’t go beyond the 8th over. Once the first wicket fell, three more wickets fell in quick succession, pushing the side into deep trouble. The Zimbabwean innings never got going as they failed to stitch a good partnership all the way long.

One of the chief tormentors of their innings was young off-break bowler Mehidy Hasan, who took the mantle upon himself with the new ball and despite failing to deliver the goods in the initial phase, he produced a breathtaking second spell. He broke the back of the middle order with the wickets of Craig Ervine, Peter Moor and Brandon Mavuta.

Kyle Jarvis and Sean Williams registered a breathtaking partnership towards the end. They added 67 runs for the 9th wicket, but this all a bit too late. Eventually, the Tigers managed to win by 28 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
