On the final day of their 500th Test, India wrapped up things in the post lunch session as they secured an astounding victory of 197 runs. With this win, India are now undefeated in their last 11 Tests winning eight and having drawn three games. The Kiwis began the day from their overnight score of 93/4.
Initially, the visitors put up a bold face as both Ronchi and Santner struck sensational half centuries. It was evident that they weren’t going to give up without a fight. Jadeja first struck blood as he got the better of Ronchi. Just before the first session ended, Shami had Watling and Craig off consecutive deliveries as the visitors hung on Santner for some glimmer of hopes.
Santner showed a great character as he put up a commendable show with the bat. However, the second session saw Ashwin burst up into the scene taking the last 3 wickets and ending a superb Test match in an emphatic fashion. He went on to get 6 wickets in the innings and in the process also picked a ten-wicket haul, his fifth in Test cricket.
Considering where New Zealand were at the end of Day 2, it was a solid effort by the Indian spinners to pull back things in time and not let the match slip away. While Jadeja deservingly got the man of the match, there were some useful contributions from the likes of Ashwin, Rohit, Pujara and Vijay as well.
Kohli was full of praise for the Indian team and also admired Kiwis positivity. With the win in the first Test of what is supposed to be a long home season, Kohli was glad that they have the momentum. The next Test match is at Eden Gardens and promises to be a challenging one.

This is some serious spell of bowling by Shami

Shami loves disturbing the furniture with the ball. Has a mindset of a Pakistani fast bowler in that sense. #IndvNZ

The support for Test Cricket across five days in Kanpur is exactly the reason why the format must be allowed to breathe outside the metros

Ronchi's counterattack has ended! Will the Kiwis continue to play aggressively with their last recognized batsmen at the crease? #INDvNZ

Slowly getting convinced that Vettori took off his glasses, got a clean shave and changed his name to Mitchell Santner
