The historic Test match between India and Afghanistan has been ended in only a couple of days as the visitors failed to prove their mettle with the bat. The World number 1 side was too good for the Test debutants as 24 wickets fell on the second day. They somehow managed to cross the three-figure mark in both the innings as India sealed the game by an innings and 262 runs which is also their biggest ever victory in the longest format of the game.
The day began with India resuming on 347/6 and rode on the stunning half-century of Hardik Pandya who played an eventful 71-run knock. He managed to stitch partnerships with R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on the back of which the team managed to post a daunting total of 474 runs in the first innings. It was the time for Afghanistan to display their batting prowess after impressing many with the ball the other day. But what unfolded in the middle was least expected as the wickets fell like a pack of cards the whole day.
Ashwin was the chief tormentor in the first innings as he scalped four wickets with his wily off-spin bowling. His classy bowling was no match to the batsmen of the opposition as they lacked patience. Moreover, the new ball worked in India’s favour as Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav rocked them early in the innings. The wickets kept on falling as Jadeja joined the party and cleaned up the tail to fold the opposition to 109.
Same story in the second innings
India, expectedly, enforced the follow-on and the same story repeated in the second innings. Mohammad Shahzad was the first to go as Umesh Yadav wrecked havoc with the new ball by picking thee wickets up front and reduced them to 24/4. The partnership between Asghar Stanikzai and Hashmtullah Shahidi was the only resistance of the Test match from Afghanistan as they added 37 runs and battled for more than 17 overs to deny India a wicket.
However, the skipper ran out of the patience and played an ugly shot to gift his wicket away to Jadeja even as Afsar Zazai was cleaned up by the same bowler. It was only a matter of time in the end as they were bundled out for 103 runs in the second innings. Jadeja was once again amongst the wickets and ended the game with the figures of 4/17 and India humbled Afghanistan in their first ever Test match. They also became the first Asian team to win a Test in two days.
Here’s how Twitter reacted during the day:
Afghanistan are bowled out for a second time in the day. India win by an innings and 262 runs in two days. A sorry spectacle to be honest. Making the journey to Test cricket has proved more fun than being there for the Afghans

For me, the key takeaway from the #INDvAFG Test is Hardik's batting. Has played some gorgeous shots. Not the usual slam bang types. Wish he hones his batting skill more.
