The Indian side decimated the West Indies outfit by 96 runs in the 3rd ODI to win the three-match ODI series 3-0. The West Indian players were no match to their Indian counterparts in every department of the game.
Chasing a target of 266, the ‘Men in Maroon’ were never really in the match and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The West Indies’ top order of Shai Hope, Brandon King, and Shamarh Brooks departed in quick succession to leave the visitors reeling at 25/3.
Darren Bravo and skipper Nicholas Pooran then stitched a partnership of 43 runs, but Bravo’s departure led to a collapse once again. From 68/3, the West Indies slipped to 82/7. Odean Smith then came and blasted 36 at a strike rate of 200, but he was just delaying the inevitable. After Siraj dismissed Smith, it was just a matter of time, as the West Indies side folded up for just 169.
Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant help India post 265 on the board
India experienced a poor start to their innings. Alzaari Joseph cleaned up skipper Rohit Sharma in the 4th over of the match, and the ‘Hitman’ walked back for just 13. Virat Kohli’s poor run with the bat continued, as the 33-year-old was dismissed for a duck.
Shikhar Dhawan was the next man to walk back to the pavilion after edging Odean Smith to Jason Holder in the slip cordon. And, that was when the duo of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came together and put on a match-winning stand. The right-left duo put on a partnership of 110 runs for the 4th wicket.
While Pant scored 56, Iyer scored a magnificent 80. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies side and scalped a four-wicket haul. Apart from Holder, Alzaari Joseph and Hayden Walsh picked up 2 wickets each.
