In what was a purely one-sided encounter at the Oval, Team India completely outplayed the Proteas in all departments as they entered the semifinals of the Champions Trophy. This is the fifth consecutive time, India have made it to the semis of an ICC event. As for the Proteas, they failed to hold onto the pressure in a knockout game again.
Earlier in the day, it was captain Virat Kohli who won the toss as India elected to bowl first. For the Indians, Ravichandran Ashwin came into the playing XI in place of Umesh Yadav. As for the South Africans, they too made one change Andile Phehlukwayo replaced Wayne Parnell.
South Africa had a good start to their innings as openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock put up a 76-run stand for the first wicket. This was before Ashwin finally got the better of Amla to break the opening stand. De Kock continued his golden run against India with a half century before getting out.
At 140/2 by the end of 28 overs, South Africa looked in good position to get a move on till 300 looking at their power packed lower order. However, two runs outs of skipper AB de Villiers and David Miller completely swung the momentum towards India. Faf du Plessis too failed to make a difference as the Proteas were bundled for 191 runs, losing their last 8 wickets for just 51 runs.
Both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah got a couple of wickets. Spinners Ashwin and Jadeja also accounted for a wicket each as the South African batsmen struggled to pick them. Hardik Pandya who went for runs initially came back strong and also got the wicket of du Plessis.
As for India, they lost Rohit Sharma early. However, from the other end, it was business as usual for Shikhar Dhawan who continued his magnificent form in the Champions Trophy. Scoring 78 runs, he top scored for India in what was a comfortable run chase.
Skipper Virat Kohli too registered his 41st century and stayed till the end of the innings to take his team to the finishing line. For a change, it was the other Singh, i.e. Yuvraj to finish the game with a six as India won the game by 8 wickets.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions during the course of the game:

We didn't get to see a flamboyant Kohli today but a determined skipper who fought hard to take his team across the line. #CT17 #INDvSA

Easiest match of the competition to predict. A team that always lifts itself for the games that matter, against its opposite. #INDvSA #CT17

Such a pity, it was a century on a platter, Dhawan threw it away.
— Gabbbar (@GabbbarSingh) June 11, 2017
Will remember this match for the fact that probably for the first time in the history of #IndvSA games, India was the better fielding side.

Rohit Sharma sacrificed his wicket so that his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan comes back into his form. How many players can do that?

Looks like a pretty straight forward win! #CT17 #INDvSA ??

The number of mistakes Manjrekar has pointed out in Kohli's batting, I'm surprised he himself didn't score 100k runs in ODIs.#INDvSA
