The Galle Test match ended up being a 4-day affair with the Indian team clinching a magnificent 304-run victory over hosts Sri Lanka. The Indian bowlers had to account for just 8 wickets owing to injuries to a couple of Sri Lankan players, Asela Gunaratne and skipper Rangana Herath. With this win, they lead the series 1-0.
India resumed the day at 189/3, skipper Virat Kohli went on to complete his 17th Test century in the morning session, his first in 2017. They batted for 7 overs before declaring and setting Sri Lanka a massive target of 560. Sri Lanka began well for a couple of overs, that wasn’t enough but it sure did raise Russell Arnold’s hopes for a moment.
22/0 in 2.1 overs…. the chase is on … yey !!

And what followed was Upul Tharanga heading back to the pavilion in a couple of balls. Danushka Gunathilaka failed to make a difference again as SL were reduced to 29/2. Opener Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis then combined for a 79-run partnership for the third wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja again stepped in to create havoc as he got the wickets of Mendis and Angelo Mathews. What followed was a resistive 101-run partnership, this time it was Niroshan Dickwella partnering Karunaratne for the fifth wicket. Just when it seemed that this match may roll down to the final day, the spin-twin of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were up to the task.
Ashwin first got rid of Dickwella and then toppled Karunaratne on 97 who was looking good for a century. He also got Nuwan Pradeep to leave the hosts reeling at 240/7. Mohammed Shami caught Lahiru Kumara at mid off as it marked the end of Sri Lanka’s misery in the Test match.
India won the first Test by a margin of 304 runs, their biggest victory by runs outside home. The focus will now shift to the 2nd Test which will be played in Colombo from Thursday. With the kind of valour displayed by the Indian team, it seems highly unlikely that they’ll lose any game in the series.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions during the course of the game:

Ravindra Jadeja might've picked up a Hat-trick but 2 Sri Lankans got injured. Unlucky sir. Nice conspiracy. #IndvsSL

Karunaratne could have been the 9th Sri Lankan player to score a ton in the 4th innings. #SLvIND

Pure bowler or a batsman who could bowl? The presence of Ashwin-Jadeja allows the team to go with the former in flatter conditions #SLvIND

Karunaratne & Dickwella not letting Kohli & Co have easy win. Splendid, attractive century partnership between them. India need breakthrough

The fastest bowling pair in the world is not Lilee-Thomson, Akram-Waqar or Ambrose-Walsh, it's Ashwin-Jadeja. They finish two overs in 3min!

Jadeja invited him to drive & he does that directly to the fielder in both inn!#SLvIND— Induneshan sachu (@induneshan) July 29, 2017
On a good track for batting, Jadeja seems to outscore Ashwin. He seems to have that patience to work for wickets.
