After much speculation surrounding the India-Pakistan clash in the Women’s Asia Cup, India defeated Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup T20 by 17 runs to successfully defend the title which they had won back in 2012 in Guangzhou. They also secured their fourth successive win against their arch rivals in the Asia Cup competition.
India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat after winning the toss as they went off to a decent start. Smriti Mandhana was the first to depart but veteran batswoman Mithali Raj continued her great form. She carried her bat through the innings and remained unbeaten on 73 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.
Apart from Mithali none of the Indian batswomen were able to make a mark. Bowling all-rounder Jhulan Goswami added impetus to the innings with a quick-fire 17 of 10 balls in during the end of their innings. Anam Amin was the most successful bowler for Pakistan finishing with 2/24 in his 4 overs.
Pakistan also got off to a positive start but kept wickets at regular intervals which never allowed them to gain a momentum. They needed someone like Mithali Raj to play the sheet anchor’s role but that was not to be. Bismah Maroof was their highest scorer with a sedate 25. They were always in the hunt with a relatively low score to chase down but eventually fell short by 17 runs.
All the Indian bowlers bowled in the right areas to put the brakes on the Pakistan Women’s team. Ekta Bisht bowled splendidly and finished with figures of 2/22 in her 4 overs. Anuja Patil, Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey and Preeti Bose all chipped in with a wicket each. The top scorer of the match Mithali Raj was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match winning 73 at the top of the order.
The Twitter space was quite active throughout the match and some tweets stood out and perfectly described the things which unfolded today. Have a look at today’s Twitter reactions:

@jatinsapru why can't Sachin be referred to as the @RajMithali of the men's game? similar careers, similar influence, fractional recognition
