Rain played spoilsport yet again in the 5-match ODI series between India A and South Africa A. Since a lot of time was lost, the match was reduced to 21-overs per side. It was Manish Pandey who won the toss and he had no second thoughts about fielding first. The toss provided the hosts with a great advantage as they knew what they had to get. Moreover, with Ishan Kishan going all guns blazing, it got that much easier for India A.

The Proteas team lost their openers quite early which put them under great pressure. Janneman Malan was the first man to find his way back to the pavilion. Deepak Chahar, with a brilliant direct hit, ran him out for 6 runs. Then, Khaleel Ahmed got the better of the in-form Reeza Hendricks. The 30-year-old was dismissed for just 1 run. After being down to 15/2, South Africa A tried to reconsolidate their innings.

Temba Bavuma batted along with Khaya Zondo and they were building up a good partnership. However, Axar Patel got through the gate and dismissed the latter for 24. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Bavuma also for 40 in the 13th over. It didn’t seem as if South Africa A would put up a big total on the board. But George Linde played a blinder towards the end where he remained unbeaten on 52 off 25 balls. Heinrich Klaasen also scored 31 which helped the visitors get to 162/5.

Ishan Kishan rises up to the occasion with some scintillating hitting

India A didn’t get off to a great start in the chase. Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for just 1 run and Shubman Gill couldn’t get going either. He crawled his way to 21 from 24 balls before Bjorn Fortuin got the better of him. Anmolpreet Singh looked impressive in the game. He mustered 30 runs from only 19 balls but couldn’t utilize the start.

The team seemed to be in a spot of bother. But Ishan Kishan came to the rescue with a brilliant knock. He took only 24 balls to score 55 runs and it was highly entertaining to watch him bat. But he was dismissed when India A was still 32 runs shy of the target. However, there wasn’t much pressure at this stage. Krunal Pandya and Axar Patel played good cricket and narrowed down the margin. Even though they lost three quick wickets towards the end, India A chased the target down in 20 overs with 2 wickets to spare.

Twitterati was pleased that India A managed to pull this off. They sang praise for Ishan Kishan who played a brilliant cameo under pressure. Also, the fans expressed disappointment over Shubman Gill’s failure in back-to-back games.
