Adelaide Strikers locked horns with Perth Scorchers in the 10th match of Big Bash League 2019-20. It turned out to be an enthralling encounter for the spectators with both the sides giving a tough fight to each other. However, the match was won by Strikers by 15 runs in a high-scoring encounter. It also helped them in clinching two important points in the BBL league table.
In the rain-affected match, Perth Scorchers won the toss and elected to field. However, the decision went into their corners as the fast bowler Jhye Richardson dismissed the in-form opener Philip Salt in first over of the innings. But after that Jake Weatherald and Matthew Short stitched a brilliant partnership of 86 runs and helped their side in reviving their chances to win the match.

Fawad Ahmed, the leg-break spinner, broke the partnership as he dismissed Matthew Short, who attempted a mistimed stroke and was caught by Liam Livingstone. On the other hand, Jake Weatherald was in full flow and smashed the bowlers all across the park. Later on, Alex Carey also joined the party and started hitting the Scorchers’ bowlers with an aggressive approach.
Weatherald mustered 83 off 47 balls with 10 boundaries and three sixes whereas Carey muscled 55 runs off 24 balls with eight fours and two maximums. It helped Strikers in posting a mammoth total of 198 runs in T20 match that was reduced to 18 overs due to rain.
Coming onto the chase, Scorchers got off to a marvellous start as their opener Josh Inglis (50 runs off 27 balls) and Liam Livingstone (69 runs off 26 balls) stitched an opening partnership of 124 runs. However, Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan spinner brought Strikers back into the game as he dismissed both the openers on back to back deliveries in the eighth over of the innings.
After the departure of the openers, the middle-order of Scorchers struggled a lot to score runs at the required run rate. And, none of the batsmen could play responsible knock because of which Scorchers had to suffer a 15-run defeat. For Strikers, Rashid Khan registered brilliant bowling figures of 3/40 and was well supported by other bowlers in the team. Harry Conway and Wes Agar shared two-two wickets each for their side. However, Jake Weatherald was adjudged Man of the Match for his swift knock of 83 runs.
After the match, the fans were elated with performances of Adelaide Strikers as they convincingly won the match against Perth Scorchers. It also marked their first win in Big Bash League 2019-20.

A very entertaining BBL game tonight. Some top boshing, a terrific comeback with the ball and some excellent fielding. Early stages, but standard certainly feels a notch up this season. #BBL09

I have to believe Agar and Conway either have a flask in their pockets for a post-game drink, or they’re two of the carefree blokes of all time after watching that segment #BBL09

For his 83 from 47, Jake Weatherald is the player of the match!@AmeliaMulcahy7 | #BBL09 pic.twitter.com/5SvykRekxu

Disagree with Weatherald as MOTM. In a game where many bats were dominant, Rashid Khan’s bowling was a clear difference between the teams. #BBL09

Nice to see some depth in the @ScorchersBBL batting lineup. Nothing like losing from there. Should be ashamed of themselves #BBL09
