Sindhis and Bengal Tigers locked horns in the qualifier of the T10 League at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The match turned out to be a cliffhanger and eventually it was the Tigers who won by seven wickets of the last ball. In the meantime, they also won the first match of the qualifier. The Sindhis lost their second match in succession and are currently languishing at the bottom of the table.

Devcich blasts away

Bengal Tigers won the toss and elected to field first and they made a decent start as Aamer Yamin picked up Shane Watson cheaply. Thereafter, Samiullah Shenwari, Watson’s fellow opener, and Anton Devcich took the bowling to the cleaners with a partnership of 86 runs from 33 balls. Shenwari notched 44 runs from 26 balls. Devcich was the more aggressive partner in the stand.

The New Zealand batsman outdrew everyone and blazed away to 64 runs from 23 balls with the help of six boundaries and five hits into the stands. Mohammad Nabi broke the stand with Devcich’s wicket in the eighth over. Nabi went to pick up a couple of wickets- Shenwari and Thisara Perera- but that couldn’t stop the Sindhis from racking up a massive score of 134/4 in their allotted 10 overs.

Roy steals the show

The Tigers had to press the accelerator right from the outset and they didn’t falter. Jason Roy and Sunil Narine opened the batting and the duo went hammer and tongs to cobble a stand of 61 runs from four overs. Narine smacked three sixes and a boundary to score 22 runs from six balls after which Australian leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed accounted for his wicket by trapping the batsman in front.

Sherfane Rutherford found the boundaries a few times but gave a simple caught and bowled chance to Ben Cutting. At the other end, Roy looked in ominous touch and he scored 64 runs from 35 balls. Just when it seemed as if he would take his team over the line, Jofra Archer got rid of him. Nevertheless, Mohammad Nabi showed a calm head to score 25 runs and take the Tigers home.
