Mumbai Indians hosted the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in their fortress of the Wankhede Stadium and continued the trend of winning the toss and opting to chase. SRH got off to an explosive start with the openers David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan going after the bowlers from the outset. They made full use of the helpful batting conditions and added 81 runs for the first wicket.

The skipper Warner was the first to go after scoring 49 when he was castled by Mitchell McClenaghan in the 11th over. The first wicket opened the floodgates and the middle order could not build upon the platform provided by the openers. Deepak Hooda, Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh fell in quick succession and the progress of the innings was halted. Dhawan too missed out on a half-century by 2 runs.

Harbhajan Singh who bowled the first over of the innings was outstanding today and accounted for Warner’s wicket who was looking dangerous and then picked up Hooda to end with figures of 2/23 in 4 overs. Ben Cutting struck a few lusty blows and showed ominous signs but his innings was curtailed to 20 by a brilliant yorker from Jasprit Bumrah.

Three further wickets fell in the last 2 overs and the score was restricted to a paltry 158/8 after 20 overs. Bumrah ended with 3 wickets for 24 runs and Malinga, McClenaghan and Hardik Pandya picking up one wicket apiece. It was a great collective effort from the MI bowlers to pull back the things and restrict a strong SRH batting line-up.

MI in reply got off to a blazing start with Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler beginning in the fourth gear. Patel was timing the ball well and struck some classy boundaries. Buttler after getting a start was bowled by Nehra at the score of 14. The captain Rohit Sharma walked in and his poor form in the league continued as he went back after scoring just 4 runs. Rashid Khan accounted for his wicket and added to his tally.

Parthiv after scoring 39 off 24 balls became the third wicket to fall in the 10th over. Kieron Pollard too followed him back to the pavilion three overs later as the game hung in balance. But the youngster Nitish Rana yet again came to the fore and rescued his team from a tense situation and scored 45 off 36 balls that included 3 fours and 2 sixes.

He was well supported by Krunal Pandya who made 37 off 20 balls with 3 fours and as many sixes. Both were dismissed late in the innings by Bhuvneshwar Kumar but not before the duo had put the team on the verge of victory. Harbhajan Singh and Hardik Pandya completed the formality and took the team past the line.

The Twitter world poured heaps of praises on Mumbai Indians as the home side won the game by 4 wickets having 8 balls to spare. Let us have a look at some of the best tweets.
