Australia’s win looks inevitable as they have tightened their grip even further over the ongoing second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval. Having declared at 473/9 while batting first, the hosts bundled England out for a paltry 236, earning a massive 237-run lead in the first innings. While stand-in skipper Steve Smith had an option of imposing follow-on, he decided to bat again to give some rest to his bowlers.

At stumps on Day 3, the Aussies were 45/1, extending their lead to 282 runs. With two days of play left in the game, the hosts have plenty of time to get England out. Hence, they shouldn’t be hasty at the start of Day 4. As far as England are concerned, the game is pretty much out of their grasp. Hence, a draw is the best outcome they can aim for, considering where the match stands currently.

Joe Root, Dawid Malan tried rescuing England once again

Coming to the proceedings on Day 3, England resumed at their overnight score of 17/2. While Mitchell Starc and debutant Michael Neser were breathing fire with the pink cherry, Joe Root and Dawid Malan showcased remarkable resilience and brought their side back in the reckoning. At 150/2, the game looked somewhat in balanced.

However, things changed after the 138-run stand for the third wicket was broken by Cameron Green. England’s lower order failed to come to the party as the visitors lost wickets in a cluster. As a result, the Three Lions got bundled for a mediocre-looking 236, handing England a 237-run lead. Australia, instead of imposing follow-on, decided to bat again in the twilight of day’s play.

David Warner was the lone Aussie batter to be dismissed before stumps as the Aussies were 45/1 at the end of day’s play. Saying Australia are at the driver’s seat would be an understatement as their victory looks pretty inevitable. The hosts would look to bat a maximum of two sessions to give their bowlers ample time to get England all-out again. On the other hand, England will have to bat out of their skin in the fourth innings to upset the Aussies.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to the proceedings of Day 3 of second Ashes Test:
