In what was yet another spectacle at the SCG, England managed to seal the series 3 nil. After having lost the Ashes 4-0, this was a tremendous comeback by the visitors. For a long time, it seemed Australia were in the game before Jos Buttler’s breathtaking knock. The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed a fantastic knock to ensure England crossed 300. Scoring 100 runs not out from just 83 balls, Buttler hit six boundaries and 4 maximums. When he came to the crease, England were in a spot of bother as they were 107/4. Their most prominent batsman Joe Root was dismissed.
Buttler and skipper Eoin Morgan put up a 65 run partnership for the fifth wicket. While Moeen Ali got out soon, it was the Buttler-Woakes combo that took apart the Australian bowling attack. They put up an unbeaten 113 run partnership from just 71 balls for the seventh wicket.
The Poms managed to post a total of 302/6 in their quota of 50 overs. As for Australia, they were reduced to 44/2 as both David Warner and Cameron White were back to the pavilion. Aaron Finch missed out on a third consecutive century as he got out on 62. There was quite a controversy over Steve Smith’s dismissal as it seemed Buttler grassed the ball.
Mitchell Marsh scored a spectacular half century but got out on the wrong time. It all fell upon Marcus Stoinis to take the hosts through and avoid a series defeat. The right-handed batsman bought Australia close to victory with a quickfire half century. However, Australia fell short by runs.
Twitter was at it’s splendid best as they witnessed a thrilling game at the SCG. Jos Buttler was lauded for his stupendous knock. That was followed by the discussion regarding Steve Smith dismissal which is surely going to spark a debate in the upcoming days.

I'm surprised Australia chose to bowl first today. It's pretty hot in Sydney today, and with the humidity expected to increase as the evening progresses, it might be hard chasing.#AUSvsENG

Feels like ages since an England player has done something stupid as a result of alcohol. #AUSvENG
— Dan Liebke (@LiebCricket) January 21, 2018
Smart. Aussies couldn't beat England across 50 overs, so they've decided to bowl 53 to them instead. #AusvEng

So far tonight Steve Smith, facing series defeat at the earliest possible point, has been accused of ball-tampering, was 27 minutes late getting through the overs and now is dismissed in controversial fashion. #AUSvENG

My son has been calling for one hand one bounce catches to be allowed for a while now. Finally, they’ve made the move #AUSvENG #Buttler
— Chris Bartlett (@bartman6) January 21, 2018
Almost worth losing the Ashes to see Steve Smith’s face on that harsh/technically correct decision #AUSvENG
— Justin Moorhouse (@justinmoorhouse) January 21, 2018
Has becoming the best test batsman in the world made Steve Smith a particularly average ODI batsman? Does he care? Do you care? #AUSvENG
— Ben Karpinski (@followthebounce) January 21, 2018
.@guerillacricket Did Smith just apply his lip balm on the ball? Asking on behalf of other teams that face such scrutiny ? #AUSvsENG pic.twitter.com/7kV1rmtIoi
