Before the start of the 55th match of IPL 10, both Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab had everything to play for as a victory for either team would have helped them book a place in the playoffs. But it didn’t work out the way Kings XI Punjab had planned ahead of the must-win clash. Batting first, Punjab were shot out for a meagre 73 in 15.5 overs Shardul Thakur was the wrecker-in-chief for Pune finishing with figures 3/19 in 4 overs.
Opener Martin Guptill gave away his wicket in the very first delivery of the match as Manoj Tiwary completed a straight forward catch. There was a procession from there on as wickets kept falling at regular intervals as the visitors were reduced to 32/5. Captain Glenn Maxwell who pushed himself down the order failed to get going as he didn’t bother the scoring.
English captain Eoin Morgan was made to stretch as Jaydev Unadkat executed a brilliant direct hit. It was a close call but replays showed he was well short of the crease. It was only Axar Patel who made a little contribution for Punjab scoring a 22. It was a horrendous performance by the batsmen who failed to make use of their opportunity.
Adam Zampa who made a comeback in place of Imran Tahir in the previous match also bagged a couple of wickets along with Dan Christian and Jaydev Unadkat. The left-arm seamer has been exceptional in the tournament so far and it was no different today. He bowled some immaculate slower ones which bamboozled the Punjab batting line-up.
Chasing the total Pune is within touching distance of the victory when the post was written. Ajinkya Rahane and captain Steve Smith is batting well requiring 16 more runs to win the match. While Smith is batting on 22, Smith is unbeaten on 7.
This @ImIshant has bowled more than 100 balls in this #IPL without any wicket, #Gambhir was right not spending money on him. #RPSvKXIP

Ishant scored more than Maxwell and Guptill. I bet no one will talk about this. They just discuss his failure. #ipl

Sehwag must have told Punjab batsmen to go "all out for a win".
At 32/5 they are halfway there.— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) May 14, 2017
Shardul Thakur must be feeling great with this performance against his former team KXIP who had sent him back midway last year#RPSvKXIP
