Delhi Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians edged past Chennai Super Kings and after their partners in the bottom half of the table, it was time for Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore to face off against Kolkata Knight Riders in Bangalore. Failing to continue the trend RCB lost the game to KKR and are now in a really desperate situation in the tournament.

Dinesh Karthik won the toss and decided to bowl first. CSK had proved that even 205 was chaseable at the Chinnaswamy and against this RCB bowling attack. They made quite a few changes in the XI and added strength to their batting but once again left their vulnerability open and it was exposed. Batting first RCB had a brilliant start with both Quinton de Kock and Brendon McCullum playing their shots with field restrictions in effect.

The partnership was eventually broken on 67, they lost a couple of quick wickets and it was only because of skipper Kohli that the team managed to post 175 runs on the board. Even at the halfway stage, it wasn’t a par total. KKR openers Sunil Narine and Chriss Lynn got the team off to just the right kind of start. Bangalore’s fielding helped their cause as Lynn was dropped on 7 and Kohli couldn’t get his hands on a half chance from Narine at first slip.

Narine scored 27, Robin Uthappa once again got a start and scored 36 before being dismissed, Nitish Rana contributed 15 but had to retire hurt. Karthik walked in and played his shots to ensure there was no pressure of the scoring rate on his team. His 10-ball 23 set them up for the win however, he couldn’t finish. Shubman Gill had to walk out and hit the winning boundary on the first ball of the last over to finish the game for his team.

All this while Lynn was batting at the other end, sweeping, reverse sweeping and attempting sweeps against the spinners, it was his night and most of them either came off or didn’t matter. He was unbeaten on 62 from 52 balls with 7 boundaries and a six. RCB’s problems are just getting worse while KKR now have won 4 of their 8 games.
