The second day of the West Indies – India Test began with Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin completely decimating the Windies bowlers in the first session. Kohli went on to record his first double hundred in Tests and in turn, also registered the highest overseas score by an Indian captain.
On the other hand, walking into bat at No.6, Ashwin rose to the occasion with a splendid century. This was his third century in Test cricket and all three have come against the Carribeans. The duo put on a magnificent 168 runs partnership for the fifth wicket before Kohli dragged one back onto his stumps.
Amit Mishra and Mohammad Shami also provided fireworks with the bat as India tried to increase their pace as they neared declaration. Mishra went on to score his fourth half century before he got out as India declared for a mammoth total of 566/8.
West Indies bowlers, on the other hand, seemed clueless in their response to the resurgence by India. While Devendra Bishoo was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, Kraig Brathwaite and Shannon Gabriel also got a couple of wickets each. Along with some clawless bowling, the West Indians were also quite sloppy in the field with a number of catches being dropped.

West Indies lost Rajendra Chandrika in the penultimate over as Shami struck on his comeback to Test cricket after almost 20 months. At stumps, West Indies were 31/1 as the Indian team had another dominating day on the field.
Twitter was all praise for Kohli and the Indian lower order. At the same time, they didn’t mind taking potshots at the low crowd, some really poor bowling and fielding. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during Day 2 of the first Test between West Indies – India:

You don't have to be talented like Rohit Sharma to score a century. Ashwin proves it.

Anyone who thought picking Holder and Brathwaite in a 4 man test attack shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a cricket stadium.

Down the ground off the back-foot against a pacer is one of the toughest shots to execute…Ashwin made it look so easy. Proper batsman.
