Two equally matched sides, Kolkata Knight Riders and the Kings XI Punjab, locked horns in the match number 44 of the IPL 2018. Coming in to the game, both sides were almost on the same page. While the Kings are placed at the number 3 spot in the points table, the Knight Riders are just a win away from matching the Kings. And by the look of things at the half way stage in the game, it is safe to assume that the Kolkata Knight Riders would believe they have given themselves a very good chance to move up to the top four in the points table.

The stage was all set at the Holkar Stadium in Indore for the ‘home’ game of the Kings XI Punjab. The Kings had a mixed bag of time at the venue with a win and a defeat in the previous two outings there. In the match, their skipper, Ravichandran Ashwin, won the toss and opted to field first. Well, he reckoned that the pitch will not change much as it is a day game. And now, he would hope that his assumptions are right.

The Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a flying start with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine adding 53 runs for the first wicket. Lynn was dismissed on 27 (17) by Andrew Tye. Robin Uthappa was the new man in. While Uthappa played well for his 17-ball 24, the second wicket partnership of 75 runs was all about Sunil Narine. Narine plundered 75 runs off just 36 deliveries with 9 fours and 4 sixes to his name.

After the dismissal of Narine and Uthappa, the carnage continued at the venue. Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik looked in destructive form with the bat. Russell scored a quick 31 off just 14 deliveries. On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik notched up his first fifty of the season. He perished for a well made 50 off mere 23 deliveries. Karthik hammered 5 fours and 3 sixes. Shubman Gill (16*) and Nitish Rana (11) also chipped in with quick cameos.

On the final ball of the innings, Javon Searles hit a six to finish things on a high for the Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR finished with 245/6 in their 20 overs. For the Kings, Andrew Tye was the pick of the bowlers with 4/41 to his name.
