Team India captain Virat Kohli failed to recuperate from his shoulder injury which he sustained during the 3rd Test in Ranchi and was forced to miss out from the deciding encounter at Dharamsala. Shreyas Iyer who was brought as Kohli’s cover for the final Test failed to make his debut as the team management preferred to go with an extra spinner in the form of Kuldeep Yadav.

With the pitch curator hinting the surface to be a lively one, the decision of going with an extra pacer baffled one and all. Swing specialist Bhuvneshwar Kumar also made a comeback in place of veteran pacer Ishant Sharma as the conditions in Dharamsala suited his style of bowling.

Murali Vijay whose place was also in doubts recovered in time is playing the deciding. Especially after Kohli was ruled out due to an injury, an extra batsman should have been the order of the day for the hosts but they decided to give Kuldeep Yadav his maiden international cap.

While it is a great opportunity for the youngster Kuldeep to realise his dream at the highest level, he shouldn’t be putting too much pressure on himself in the deciding Test. This is also the first time Ajinkya Rahane is leading India in the longest format of the game.

The Aussies have started off fluently in the 4th and the final Test in Dharamsala and looked in complete control of proceedings in the pre-lunch session. After losing the early wicket of Matt Renshaw, captain Steve Smith and David Warner steadied the ship with some exceptional strokeplay.

While Warner got a lucky break in the first delivery of the match, Smith was hardly troubled by any of the bowlers and took them on with disdain. With the partnership looking solid, it will be worrying signs for Rahane and Co.
