Dharamsala stadium hosted their much awaited first Test game as India and Australia locked horns for the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series. India didn’t have the best of starts to the game as captain Virat Kohli was ruled out an hour before the game. Ajinkya Rahane walked out for the toss, his first ever game as a captain.

It was Steve Smith who made the right call as Australia elected to bat first. They had an unchanged XI from their last game. On the other hand, India made 2 changes. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was bought in for Ishant Sharma. Debutant Kuldeep Yadav finally got his chance as India played with an extra bowler.

While David Warner was dropped on the first ball of the game, Umesh Yadav knocked over Matt Renshaw’s stumps in the very second over. However, tables turned rapidly as Steve Smith continued his exceptional run in the series. Warner also took hold as together both compiled runs at a quick pace for the visitors.

The Australians scored 131 runs in the first session without losing another wicket. The Warner-Smith duo put up a sensational 134 runs partnership for the first wicket. If the first session was about Australian batsmen dominating, the second session was all about Indian bowlers swinging back the momentum.

Kuldeep Yadav got rid of the dangerous Warner. Soon, he also outfoxed Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell making a strong statement on his debut. Umesh Yadav also chipped in as he got the wicket of last match’s saviour for Australia, Shaun Marsh.

While Steve Smith kept running out of partners, that didn’t stop him from scoring yet another brilliant ton, his third in the series and 20th in the format. However, he was dismissed by Ravi Ashwin just moments before tea as Australia were left reeling at 208/6.

The misery didn’t quite end for Australia after tea. While Mathew Wade played a crucial knock of 57 runs, others couldn’t hang on with him. He was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja who got his first wicket after becoming the No.1 bowler in the format. Bhuvneshwar hammered the final nail in the coffin as Australia were all out for 300 runs.

India did come out to bat for one over which was quite inconsequential as neither runs were score nor any wickets fell. While every bowler was among the wickets today, the star of the day was, of course, Kuldeep Yadav who picked up 4 wickets.

Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the day:
