An 81 ball 104 from Manish Pandey saw India salvage some pride to win the 5th and final ODI. Pandey, playing in only his fourth game struck his maiden ODI ton to ensure an Indian victory by 7 wickets and two deliveries to spare.

Set a stiff target of 331 on a flat Sydney wicket, a strong foundation was laid by the Indian openers with an opening stand of 123. The stage was set for Manish Pandey following the fall of Manish Pandey. Batting at no.4, Pandey began his innings in a controlled yet aggressive manner. After racing to a quick fifty, there was an unfortunate twist in the story. The fall of Rohit Sharma on 99 and extremely tight bowling from the Aussies ensured that the Indians were once again on the backfoot.

However, some inspired batting from Manish Pandey, in particular, saw the Indians make a rapid comeback in the contest. Skipper MS Dhoni eased the pressure with a six off the first ball of the final over. Manish Pandey completed the job, eventually reaching his half century and rightly awarded the Man of the match.

Speaking to former Australian skipper Mark Taylor after the game, Pandey went on to say, “Batting No. 4 is one of the chances I got because Ajju was injured, and I wanted to capitalize, especially on these wickets, with 300 scored in every match. Always nice to have Indian people in the stadium, it’s a big boost to us.”
