Sydney Sixers’ winning run in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22 finally comes to an end as they suffer a 44-run defeat against Hobart Hurricanes in their latest fixture. It was indeed an emphatic win from the Hurricanes as the defending champions were on the back foot for the best part of the game. Meanwhile, the day belonged to Hurricanes skipper Matthew Wade, who scored 93 to put his side on command.

Speaking of the proceedings of the contest, Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bat at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Hurricanes got off to a flying start with skipper Wade and D’Arcy Short attacking bowlers from the outset. From Tom Curran to Chris Jordan, every Sixers bowler was taken to cleaners by the opening duo.

Wade even looked all set to get the three-figure mark but he fell prey to Tom Curran for 93. Nonetheless, Short then found a substantial in Caleb Jewell, who also looked in some mood. The former remain unbeaten at 73 at the Hobart-based side posted 213/2 while batting first.

Sixers’ chase was affected by rain and the same altered the equation. As per the Duckworth Lewis Method, the three-time champions have to get 196 runs in 18 overs to cross the line. Like their previous two games this season, the Sixers again got off to a fine start with openers Josh Philippe and James Vince attacking bowlers from the outset.

Josh Philippe played the lone hand for Sydney Sixers

The duo added 61 runs for the first wicket as Sixers’ chase looked on command. James Vince’s departure brought skipper Moises Henriques, who scored in excess of 70 in his first two assignments this season. While the veteran was expected to showcase his brilliance again, his low-scoring didn’t help the Sydney-based team much.

Josh Philippe did make a quick-fire 72 but it was one-way traffic after he departed in the 14th over. The likes of Daniel Christian and Daniel Hughes couldn’t do much as the Sixers were restricted to 151/4, losing the contest by 44 runs via the Duckworth Lewis (DLS) method.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Hobart Hurricanes’ emphatic triumph:
