The game between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) was being touted as the clash between the experience and youth. The MCA International Stadium in Pune hosted the game and they were not disappointed by the Men in Yellow as they churned a lot of runs after being inserted to bat first. The home side made a lot of changes to their playing XI today after an untimely injury to the fast bowler Deepak Chahar. The young KM Asif was brought into the side and even Shardul Thakur was dropped.
The opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson strode out to the middle even as the latter was rapped on the pads on the first ball only to be given not out by the umpire. DD reviewed the decision straight away but the TV umpire was confused by the fact if it was bat first or pad first and eventually the umpire’s call on the field stayed. The game changed completely since then as Watson went berserk by making the mockery of the small boundaries of the Stadium.
Watson special blows away Delhi
He was in the mood today and blazed away against every bowler who was brought into the attack. The former Australian took a special liking to Liam Plunkett and smashed him for 20 runs in his opening over. His partner, meanwhile, struggled to get going as they added 102 runs in 65 deliveries for the first wicket. Suresh Raina endured a rare failure in CSK colours as Glenn Maxwell castled him in the very next over. But Watson continued to march his way towards the century only for Amit Mishra to play spoilsport who was bowling well.
He sent back the man in form on 78 off just 39 balls which slowed down the scoring rate a bit but MS Dhoni took care of that by going against the bowling form the word go. Trent Boult was the man in the firing line as he and Ambati Rayudu took 21 runs off the 17th over of the innings. The fun continued thereafter with Delhi bowlers missing their lines at the crucial time as the partnership grew dangerous and might have eventually taken the game too far away from the visitors.
Eventually, the duo powered CSK to a huge total of 211 runs as Dhoni finished unbeaten on 51 off just 22 balls and Rayudu scored 41 before getting out in the final over. The skipper smacked 5 sixes during his stay in the middle and played a blinder of an innings.
