Unlike the first two games, the third match of PSL 2020 wasn’t a high-scoring one. The bowlers dominated in this encounter between the Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. The latter, however, hardly broke a sweat and registered an easy, comfortable victory to add two points to their tally. For his brilliant bowling, Imran Tahir was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’. But it was a complete team effort and all the players had important contributions in this victory.

After they were put in to bat first, Lahore Qalandars got off to a flyer. They could have easily capitalised and got a big score. But they made a complete meal of it. Chris Lynn got off to a great start scoring 39 from 19 balls while Fakhar Zaman got 19 from 14 deliveries. They added 59 runs before the completion of the powerplay but both fell in the sixth over.

The batsmen who came after them kept giving their wickets away one after the other and it seemed as if they got into a shell. Skipper Sohail Akhtar contributed with an unbeaten 34 but the team could only get 138/8 on the board. Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali and Mohammad Ilyas picked up two wickets each.

Shan Masood plays a good knock in his first game as skipper

In his first game as captain, Shan Masood impressed with the bat. He scored 38 runs from 29 balls setting the tone for the chase. The likes of James Vince and Moeen Ali couldn’t contribute big and only scored 18 and 11 runs respectively. Rilee Rossouw anchored the innings with 32 runs from 28 deliveries. Even though the Multan Sultans kept losing wickets at regular intervals throughout the chase, reaching the target never seemed a concern for them.

With the experience of someone like Shahid Afridi in the line-up, they didn’t have to press the panic button at any stage of their innings. The former Pakistan skipper played an aggressive knock scoring 21 runs from only 12 balls. He smashed two fours and one six during his knock and thus helped the team win by 5 wickets. The chase was finished in only 16.1 overs.
