Kings XI Punjab took on the Mumbai Indians in a humdinger of a contest at Mohali. Captain David Miller won the toss as KXIP elected to field first. While Punjab brought in Mitchell Johnson and Pardeep Sahu, Mumbai fielded an unchanged XI from their last game.
Batting first, MI lost skipper Rohit Sharma in the first over who got out for a duck. From there on, Parthiv Patel and Ambati Rayudu steered Mumbai to a wonderful start as they put on 137 runs partnership for the second wicket. While Parthiv played a splendid innings of 81 runs from 58 balls, Rayudu also left no stones unturned with an elegant 65 from just 37 balls.
Jos Buttler’s cameo, in the end, was crucial as it helped MI reach 189/6 in their quota of 20 overs. Mohit Sharma was a touch expensive but still the pick of the bowlers as he took 3 wickets.
On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab lost both their in-form openers inside the powerplay overs. Then, Shaun Marsh and Glenn Maxwell’s onslaught led Punjab’s charge. Maxwell hit his first fifty of the season as he scored 56 runs from 39 balls. However once Marsh got out, KXIP lost the momentum and lost a flurry of wickets in the end as the run rate became unachievable.
In the end, Mumbai Indians won the match by 25 runs as Parthiv Patel deservingly won the man of the match. Twitter kept everyone entertained throughout the encounter between Mumbai and Punjab. Right from lauding Parthiv and Rayudu to trolling Johnson, here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
Mann and Rishi Dhawan were playing for India earlier this year…can't find a place in a losing franchise side. Disappointing. #KXIPvsMI

At just 22, Bumrah has already become the go-to man for both Dhoni and Rohit. Shows how valuable the X-factor is for a bowler! #KXIPvsMI

That was best IPL9 batting performance by KXIP by a distance, bowlers lost them the game. Sandeep Sharma didn't deserve to be on losing side

Who framed this year's squad for KXIP? Lacks quality Indian players, overseas replacements are Behardien & Stoinis. Symapthies to KXIP fans.

Pollard again? Ambrose at his age was bowling with more bite in all stars cricket.

New invention from Pollard. The slower one that goes back towards the umpire than the batsman.
