Mumbai Indians took on the Rising Pune Supergiants in the Maharashtra derby at Pune. Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss as MI elected to field first. RPS had the Aussie pacer Scott Boland coming in while MI had an unchanged XI from their last game.
Batting first, RPS lost Rahane early. Then, Steve Smith continued his brilliant form as he along with Saurabh Tiwary put up an 84 runs partnership for the second wicket. While Smith smashed 45 runs from 23 balls, Tiwary also did well for his 57 (45).
However, the tables turned later in the inning, as the MI bowlers did well to restrict the RPS batsmen to 159/5 in the end. Jasprit Bumrah was again the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 wickets and bowled a lethal second spell.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians began well. Parthiv Patel got out after a good start, as Rohit Sharma continued his great form batting second. He scored a magnificent 85 runs from just 60 balls as Mumbai Indians cruised to an 8-wicket victory. Both Ambati Rayudu and Jos Buttler built crucial partnerships with Rohit in the end as MI chased 160 with 9 balls to spare.
RPS bowlers continued their poor form as the Pune Supergiants went on to lose their fourth and last game at home. Twitter kept everyone entertained with some splendid tweets throughout the Maharashtra derby. Right from lauding Rohit and Smith to trolling Dinda and Harbhajan-Rayudu. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
