Lendl Simmons was on the bench, he couldn’t break into the XI for the first ten games in the tournament but considering the future prospects, he was given a game. Mumbai Indians replaced Jos Buttler with the West Indian and he powered them off to a glorious start, the ball was just travelling and travelling like a bullet to the boundary. His 66 off 43 stole the show right at the start of the match.

When such a splendid platform was laid by the openers the star-studded Mumbai batting came to the party Kieron Pollard was promoted to No.3 and he scored his runs with a strike rate of 180, he was there in the middle for 35 balls and was the best that could happen after the kind of start Simmons gave them. Skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 10 but the finisher they like to bank on Hardik Pandya hit three mighty sixes to finish the game with 29 from 14 balls and MI had 212 on the board.

The returning Delhi Daredevils captain Zaheer Khan called the right side of the coin which saw the Daredevils electing to bowl first. Zak who replaced Shahbaz Nadeem was the only change in the side while MI made two changes in Krunal Pandya and Jos Buttler being swapped for Harbhajan Singh and Lendl Simmons respectively.

Simmons, playing his first game of the tournament, along with Parthiv Patel, got Mumbai off to a flyer with 60 coming off the first powerplay. Once again, a strategic time-out claimed another victim as Patel fell to the leg-spinner Amit Mishra. Pollard came next and the big man plundered the bowlers all around the park and along with a fiery cameo from Pandya took the Mumbai Indians to a formidable total.

To say that the Daredevils “floundered” would be an understatement as they collapsed one after the other like a house of cards. The heroics of their previous innings weren’t to be replicated as both Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant failed to trouble the scorers. No one from the Daredevils batting was ready to take up the responsibility of the huge run chase and they just folded up for a paltry 66 and thus they won the game by a whopping 146 runs margin.

Here is how Twitterati reacted as MI registered the highest margin of victory in the IPL:
