Pakistan has sealed the victory in the second and final match of the two-match Test series. After a tedious draw in the first Test, the Azhar Ali-led side trounced back to clinch the series in the second Test match in Karachi. After the return of Test cricket in Pakistan, the Men in Green have started their campaign on a positive note by registering a comprehensive victory over Sri Lanka by 263 runs.
This was Pakistan’s first Test win at home since 2006 when they had registered a victory against West Indies at Karachi. Furthermore, this was also the first Test win for the hosts since November 2018. An elated Pakistan side was seen celebrating their first Test series win against Sri Lanka since 1991-92. Pakistan have now cruised to the third place in the World Test Championship table. 32-year-old Abid Ali, who has been delivering consistent performances lately, was adjudged Man of the Match as well as Man of the Series.
Pakistan could only amass 191 runs on the board in the 1st innings. However, the hosts redeemed themselves in the 2nd innings as they posted a mammoth total of 555 runs on the board, courtesy impressive batting performances from Abid Ali (174) and Shan Masood (135). Pakistan’s batting stalwart- Babar Azam- who also scored 60 runs in the 1st innings- delivered a daunting performance in the 2nd innings too as the right-hander smashed a brilliant ton. Skipper Azhar Ali also led his side from the front as he scored 118 runs to ensure that Pakistan gallop the 500-run mark on the scoreboard.
Naseem Shah- the 16-year-old teenage sensation- who garnered all the attention after making his debut against Australia, proved his mettle against Sri Lanka as the speedster scalped five wickets in the 2nd innings to dismantle the Islanders at a score of 212 runs. After Shaheen Afridi stole the limelight in the 1st innings with his fifer, Naseem Shah left no stone unturned in the 2nd innings.
Both the youngsters- Shaheen Afridi (19 years) and Naseem Shah (16 years) carried the legacy of Pakistan’s lethal bowling force by scalping fifers in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively. Many people had felt that Naseem Shah was not fruitful against Australia due to his lack of experience. However, the youngster has eventually proved his forte on the international stage by becoming the second-youngest player to scalp a fifer in Test cricket.
The pacer was joined by Yasir Shah, who picked up two wickets as Sri Lanka’s line-up was swept at a scored of 212 runs. Oshada Fernando, who scored a brilliant ton for Sri Lanka, was the solitary performer for the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side.
Here’s how Twitter reacted after Pakistan etched their name into history by registering the victory against Sri Lanka:
Disappointed to have blown such a great position here in Karachi #palvsl Lot to ponder for @OfficialSLC ..opposition teams are not going to just roll over. More purpose and desire needed if this team is to move forward . Need to look inside yourself for what’s required🤨

Congratulations to Pakistan on winning test match at home after 13 long years and last one also came at National Stadium Karachi in 2006. Abid Babar Azhar Shan scored milestones but much appreciation for Naseem Shah on becoming youngster ever to take fifer in Cricket.🎉#PAKvSL

Sri Lanka used a review on the plumbest lbw in the 142 year history of Test cricket but Naseem Shah has a five-wickrt haul at the age of 16. He's the youngest ever to do that. Pakistan's first Test victory on home soil since 2006. #PakvSL

Doesn't matter whether Naseem Shah is 16, 17, 18 or 19 – he's a brilliant prospect. Bowled with fantastic control, good pace and bowled with plenty of intelligence in this innings. What a talent #PAKvSL

In a rather forgettable stat Sri Lanka's last 5 wickets fell for 11 runs and the last 4 wickets for no runs.
