Off break bowler, Nathan Lyon helped visitors Australia claw their way back into the final Test in Dharamsala against the mighty Indians with a four-wicket in the final session of Day 2. It was a sensational display of spin bowling by the veteran spinner and his spell of 4/67 will surely keep Australia in good stead ahead of the 3rd and the most important day of the Test from the perspective of either team.
India was comfortably placed at 153/2 with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane going great guns. But just after the tea interval, Nathan Lyon dismissed double centurion from the previous match, Cheteshwar Pujara with a quality delivery after the Saurashtra lad made 57. It pitched around the off stump and took the inside edge of his bat and lobbed up in the air. Peter Handscomb fielding in the short leg region completed a sensational catch.
Now in a matter of minutes, the ace spinner dismissed Karun Nair with a similar sort of a delivery. Again it had steep bounce and Nair gloved it straight up in the air. Matthew Wade behind the stumps completed a straightforward catch. With 4 wickets down, Ravichandran Ashwin came out in the middle to join captain Ajinkya Rahane. Both played some delightful shots before falling prey to Nathan Lyon yet again.
Rahane was dismissed in a similar way like Steve Smith in the 1st innings and gave a straightforward catch to Smith in the 1st slip. The ball turned and bounced and took the outside edge of Rahane’s bat. Lyon put India further on the back foot when he had Ashwin plumb in front of the stumps with a great delivery. The ball turned sharply and thudded onto his pads.
It was a close call as the impact looked outside the off stump in naked eye. Ashwin went upstairs but replays should that the impact was marginally within the off stump and it stayed as the umpire’s call. His spell has definitely given Australia a huge opportunity to overcome the Indian dominance and win their first series in India after 13 years.
Twitterati was buzzing with congratulatory tweets for Nathan Lyon after the tweaker had India in a precarious situation at the end of the day’s play. Here are some of the best tweets.
Just saw the score #INDvAUS is the wicket good or batting well or no third seamer the difference??

Another absorbing day of Test cricket. Once again, Lyon showed the importance of putting the body behind the ball…extracted extra bounce!
