As the match was called off early due to rain, New Zealand had dominated India on the day’s play winning all the sessions. India started off the day well as the 10th wicket partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav added vital 41 runs, which took the Indian total over 300.

But since then, nothing went right for team India as the visitors stood strong with 152 runs on the board with the loss of just one wicket. Martin Guptill who looked dangerous was the only one who dismissed as Umesh Yadav trapped him leg-before-wicket.

Then onus was on the Tom Latham – Kane Williamson duo to lay a solid foundation to make the journey easy for the middle-order. The duo has achieved that quite well as they have added 117 runs for the second wicket and is still there at the crease.

Not a rank-turner for sure, but of course it is expected to assist the spinners later on in the Test. Indian bowlers have produced some half chances but the credit goes to the New Zealand batsmen who were good with their backward punches, use-of-feet, sweep shots, and most importantly played with soft hands.

There was also a controversial dismissal on the day’s play as Tom Latham was adjudged not out as the ball touches KL Rahul’s helmet while completing the catch. The replays indicated that the ball was clearly touching grill of Rahul’s helmet.

The rain might hurt India as the pitch was getting deteriorated and the third session was the hardest one to bat as India lost 5 wickets yesterday in the third session.
