Kraigg Braithwaite missed out on a well-deserved hundred by nine runs while Windies lost the plot and got bowled out for 319. Matt Henry finished with 3/57 and Trent Boult scalped 2/57. Neil Wagner, who was fiery in the first innings, bagged 2/102, to grab the game by an innings and 62 runs. Shai Hope couldn’t add much to his overnight score and departed for 37.
Roston Chase and the rest of the batters failed to negotiate the bounce and pace and they never looked settled. The visitors would blame themselves for not putting up a decent total on the board in the first innings. Jason Holder’s men were floored for 134 in the first innings and Kiwi’s reply of 520/9 didn’t leave much to work on.
Yesterday, it looked like Windies do have an outside chance of making a comeback into the game after Braithwaite started off well with Kieran Powell. Shimron Hetmyer joined the damage repair work and he along with Braithwaite put on a 90-plus run stand.
Folded under 350
The Blackcaps didn’t give away too much and kept them under the shackle. It won’t be easy for Holder and his boys to stage a comeback in the next Test unless they polish out their batting antics. Kiwis will be pretty pleased to have bundled them out under 350. As one good partnership, today morning could have changed things for the touring side.
Wagner, who picked nine wickets in the match, said that it was a tough wicket and they bowled well in tandem. “A tough graft, the wicket got better as the Test match went on. we bowled well in partnerships. Conditions were tough, a stiff breeze. We had to adapt our plans. Credit to their batsmen, when we got stuck into them again, they took it on, they are a quality team. We had to readjust our plans.”
Let’s check out how the Twitterati reacted to the massive outcome
