New Zealand annihilated Windies by 204 runs in the second of the three-match ODI series and have also sealed the series at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Trent Boult was the star of the match as he registered his career-best figures and decimated the batting line-up of the visitors. Windies succumbed to yet another series defeat in 2017 as they were not able to match the playing standards of the hosts. However, Twitterati was up for the game and hailed the performance of Trent Boult while trolling Windies team for their hapless show.
After being put in to bat first, the home side started well on the back of their openers Colin Munro and George Worker. The good work was continued by the middle-order despite a stutter in between as Tom Latham and Ross Taylor fell in quick succession. Todd Astle and Henry Nicholls displayed their prowess with the bat in hand and added a crucial 130 runs for the sixth wicket which helped their side propel to a score of 325. Sheldon Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers for Windies who replaced the injured Kesrick Williams only just before the game.

West Indies needed to get off to a good start chasing a hefty total of 326 to keep the series alive and they started to crumble in the second over itself. The absence of Chris Gayle haunted them badly as they lost their top four wickets in first 10 overs. All the wickets were picked by Boult who used the conditions wonderfully well and made the new ball talk. The visitors never recovered from the early jolts and seemed resigned to their fate.
Lockie Ferguson also joined the party and enjoyed his time bowling at more than 150 kph consistently. Few of his deliveries hurried on to the batsmen which lead to three wickets for the youngster. After a little bit of rest, Boult came back and cleaned up the tail which was stretching the game only to frustrate the New Zealanders. Windies could eventually muster only 121 runs and lost the game by a huge margin. Boult raced to his career best figures of 7/34 and also completed 100 ODI wickets in his 56th cricket match.
Twitter loved the swing bowling exhibition of the left-arm seamer and hailed the Black Caps for their series win. But they also did not forget to troll Windies for letting it slip once again after having some kind of control on the game.
Here’s how Twitter erupted:
