The stage was all set for the southern derby at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Royal Challengers Bangalore returned to their home venue after a long gap to host the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Coming into the game, the two sides had a contrasting run of form. The visitors were in a happy place with a place in the playoffs already confirmed for them.

On the other hand, the Royal Challengers Bangalore languished in the unwanted half of the points table. However, their recent two wins had given them an outside sniff in the race for the playoffs. With this backdrop, the hosts knew they were the more desperate side in the match. At the halfway stage in the game, the Virat Kohli-led side will feel they have got enough runs on the board to defend.

Earlier in the game, the Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bowl first. In walked Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel to open for RCB. They did not have a great start as Parthiv perished on 1 in the very first over of the game. Virat Kohli was undone by Rashid Khan four overs later. Kohli scored 12 before getting dismissed. Meanwhile, AB de Villiers looked in sublime form with the bat.

He found very good support from Moeen Ali, who came in at number 4 in the game. Both overseas recruits scored their individual fifties as the partnership between them read 107 on paper. Kane Williamson got Rashid back in the attack and the Afghanistani leggie responded by dismissing both the set batsmen. AB scored 69 off 39 with 12 fours and a six to his name and Moeen played a crucial knock of 65 off 34 balls with a couple of boundaries and six sixes.

The visitors thought they had pulled things back by dismissing the set batsmen. But Colin de Grandhomme and Sarfraz Khan (22 off 8 balls) had other plans. They added 62 runs off 25 balls towards the end to give some serious impetus to the innings. Also, Basil Thampi conceded 70 runs in his four overs to let RCB score at free will. Grandhomme played a blitzkrieg 17-ball 40 to take the total past the 200-mark. The innings eventually finished with 218/6 in the stipulated 20 overs.
