Expect the unexpected is the kind of mindset you carry whenever India plays Pakistan. And that’s what we witnessed at The Oval today in the first innings. Pakistan went on to post 338/4 in their quota of 50 overs. Yes, you heard it right.

Captain Virat Kohli won the toss as India elected to field first. The Indians began well with Bhuvneshwar bowling a maiden over first up. Jasprit Bumrah had Fakhar Zaman edging one to MS Dhoni only to end up in disappointment, as the TV replays showed that Bumrah had overstepped.

What followed was a sensational opening partnership among the Pakistani batsmen. Not even in the wildest dreams would’ve someone predicted that Pakistan would have such a great start to their innings. Both put up 128 runs for the first wicket. Indian fielding continued to disappoint in the big game as well.

While Azhar Ali got run out after a staggering half century, it was Zaman who took full advantage of the life he got due to the no ball. He went on to smash a brilliant hundred as the Indian bowlers failed to stop him.

After Fakhar’s dismissal, Shoaib Malik and Babar Azam took up to the task. While Malik failed to convert his start into a big one, Azam did bat well for his 46. Mohammed Hafeez scored a quickfire half century while Imad Wasim also played a wonderful cameo as both finished things off in style for Pakistan.

The Indian bowlers were really poor on a day they were supposed to deliver. Leaving Bhuvneshwar Kumar, no bowler showed any promise to apply pressure to the Pakistani batting lineup. The likes of Ashwin, Jadeja and even Bumrah were taken away to the cleaners. Twitter was at its splendour as the Indian bowlers and fielders got trolled.

Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions during the course of the game:
