They were trolled for their batting, their fielding was termed the worst, and they were the lowest ranked team entering the tournament. Team India thrashed them in the tournament opener but they responded in splendid fashion. Pakistan thumped the defending champions in the final by the biggest margin ever 180 runs to lift the Champions Trophy title.

Sarfraz Ahmed hadn’t been here, he was leading the team in the first ICC event and the team had qualified for the first ever CT final. Being asked to bat first Pakistan came all guns blazing; it was Fakhar Zaman’s day. He got one life early in his inning and then made the Indians pay for it. He scored a hundred and gave the team the momentum in the most important game.

Everyone who walked out after him Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Imad Wasim had a great outing with the bat. The other opener Azhar Ali also contributed a half century. There was literally nothing to talk about the Indian bowling spare Bhuvneshwar Kumar who was the lone bowler with respectable figures.

Pakistan managed 338/4 in 50 overs and thereafter it was their game to lose. The kind of bowling attack Pakistan had it was never going to be easy. Mohammad Amir came out with the ball and he was breathing fire. In the very first over he sent back Rohit Sharma with a brilliant delivery that came back late after pitching and he had no idea.

The state of the Indian batting attack was clueless thereafter. Amir got rid of Virat Kohli twice in two balls, the first was dropped but he created another opportunity on the very next ball and got rid of the big man who often relishes to chase.

No Indian batsman showed any resistance except for Hardik Pandya who played some extravagant shots and attacked all the bowlers. He hit 6 sixes in his knock and scored 76 from 43 balls. He was run out via a misunderstanding and it was curtains for India. They managed just 158 runs as Hasan Ali bowled another brilliant spell he picked 3 wickets and with the last wicket of Bhuvneshwar sent the entire team and the rest of Pakistan in cries of victory.
