Twitter Reactions: Prithvi Shaw smacks double century in Vijay Hazare Trophy against Puducherry

Let us focus our attention on Prithvi Shaw, because he definitely deserves it. The guy has got so much talent that when he gets going, he makes the art of batting look like the easiest skill in the world. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Puducherry, the diminutive right-hander scored a magical 227* and ripped apart the opposition bowling attack.

What was so impressive to see was, in spite of scoring his runs at a strike rate of 149.34, there was not an element of slogging in the way Shaw played. His knock was studded with 31 fours and 5 magnificent maximums. And, he got to his maiden List A double hundred with a single to square leg off the bowling of Santamoorthy. At the age of 21, Shaw has once again shown the world the kind of talent that he has.

Apart from Shaw, the other Mumbai batsmen too gave a pounding to the Pondicherry bowling attack. Aditya Tare scored a sedate 64-ball 56, and Suryakumar Yadav blasted a murderous 58-ball 133, as Mumbai piled on a massive total of 457 runs on the board.

But then, such was the resplendence that Shaw exhibited out in the middle, that even Suryakumar Yadav’s blitzkrieg was relegated to the background. The Puducherry bowlers got hammered to all parts of the ground. In fact, 5 out of the 8 bowlers that Pondicherry used conceded runs at an economy rate of more than 8 runs an over. On a lighter note, even Puducherry bowler Sagar Trivedi missed his ‘bowling century’ by just a single run, as he conceded 99 runs in his quota of 9 overs.

Shaw also became the second youngest Indian batsman to smash a List A double hundred, after teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Jaiswal smashed a double century at the age of 17 years and 292 days, Shaw has scored his double ton at the age of 21 years and 108 days. Once again, Shaw has caught the attention of the cricketing world. And, this double hundred from him will surely make the selectors look in his direction yet again.
